Terms
Last updated October 28, 2026
These terms are the agreement between you and Labyrinth Works LLC ("we", "us"), which makes Mealith. They cover the Mealith web app, this website, and the Mealith Plus subscription. When Mealith arrives in the App Store and Google Play, we will update these terms before it does. By using Mealith you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use Mealith.
1. What Mealith is
Mealith is a calorie and food diary. The free app has every feature, and your diary is stored on your own device. There is no account and there are no ads. The optional Mealith Plus subscription adds an end-to-end encrypted backup of your diary that you can restore on any device, and early access to sync between devices when it is ready.
2. Not medical advice
Mealith helps you keep a record. It is not a medical device and does not give medical, nutritional or diet advice. Calorie targets, estimates of energy burned and food values are estimates, and can be wrong. Talk to a doctor or a registered dietitian before you change how you eat, especially if you are pregnant, have a medical condition, or have or have had an eating disorder.
3. Who can use Mealith
You must be at least 16 to use Mealith. If you are under 18, a parent or guardian should agree to these terms with you.
4. Your data stays yours
- Your diary, weights, measurements, photos and everything else you enter belong to you.
- On the free app, your data exists only on your device. If you lose the device or delete the app without a backup, we cannot get the data back. Mealith lets you export your data at any time, for free, and we encourage you to do it regularly.
- With Mealith Plus, your backup is encrypted on your device before it is uploaded, with a key we never have. We cannot read it, and we cannot recover it for you. If you lose your passphrase and your recovery key, any device that still has your diary can set up a new key. If you lose both and every device, your backup cannot be opened by anyone, including us.
5. The Mealith Plus subscription
What it is. An optional subscription at the price shown on the pricing section and at checkout, currently US$2.99 a month or US$19.99 a year. It adds the encrypted backup, and early access to sync between devices when it ships. Sync is not finished yet, and we don't promise a date. Every other feature is free without it. Mealith Plus is sold on the web, through Paddle.
Our order process on the web is conducted by our online reseller Paddle.com. Paddle.com is the Merchant of Record for all our web orders. Paddle provides all customer service inquiries and handles returns. Your web purchase is also subject to Paddle's buyer terms.
Renewal and cancelling. The subscription renews automatically at the end of each month or year until you cancel. You can cancel at any time from the link in your Paddle receipt or in the app. It then runs to the end of the period you have paid for and does not renew. There is no cancellation fee. If you cancel, your diary stays on your devices; only the backup and sync stop. We keep your encrypted backup for 90 days after the subscription ends, so you can resubscribe without starting again, and then delete it.
Failed payments. If a renewal payment fails, your backup keeps working for 7 days while the payment is retried. After that it pauses until the payment goes through or you cancel. Your diary on your devices is not affected.
Price changes. We will tell you at least 30 days before a new price applies to your subscription. If you don't agree, cancel before it applies.
Refunds are described in the Refund Policy, which is part of these terms.
6. Food information
Mealith's food information comes from USDA FoodData Central, which is in the public domain, and from Open Food Facts, which is available under the Open Database License (ODbL). Food values can be incomplete or wrong. Check the label when it matters.
If you send us a correction to a food, you give us permission to use it, change it and share it with everyone, including as part of a public copy of the food data under the ODbL. Corrections are sent without your name. Please don't put personal information in them.
Sharing a food. When a barcode isn't found, you can add the food yourself. It stays on your device unless you tick "Share this food with the Mealith community". If you share it, you license the food data you send (its name, brand, barcode and nutrition values) to Labyrinth Works LLC under the Open Database License 1.0, and its contents under the Database Contents License 1.0, so that anyone can use it. Shared foods appear for everyone straight away. We may edit, hide or remove any shared food, for example after a report. Shared foods come from other people and are not checked before they appear, so we make no promise that they are accurate. Check the label when it matters. Only share what is on the label, never personal information.
7. Fair use
Don't use Mealith to:
- copy, scrape or bulk-download the food lookup service, or build another database from it, beyond the public data copy we publish;
- attack, overload or get around the security of the apps or our servers, including rate limits;
- send false or abusive food corrections or shared foods;
- break the law.
We may suspend lookup access or a subscription that is used this way. If we end a subscription for this reason, there is no refund.
8. Deleting your account
Only subscribers have an account. You can delete it at any time in the app, under Settings, or by emailing us. Deleting it removes your encrypted backup, your keys and your account from our servers straight away. Copies in our server backups expire within 30 days. It does not delete the diary on your devices. Your subscription is cancelled for you, and refunded as the Refund Policy says.
9. Changes to Mealith
Mealith will change over time. We may add, change or remove features. We will not take away a paid feature during a period you have already paid for without a pro rata refund. If we ever stop offering Mealith Plus, we will give you at least 30 days' notice and time to export your data.
10. Warranty and liability
Mealith is provided "as is" and "as available". As far as the law allows, we give no warranties beyond those in these terms, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for lost data on the free app. Our total liability to you for anything to do with Mealith is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer law that cannot be limited.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Connecticut, United States. If you live in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you also keep the protection of the mandatory consumer laws where you live.
12. Changes to these terms
If we change these terms in a way that matters, we will say so in the app and on this page before the change applies. The date at the top shows when they last changed.
